Chicago Luminescence Dating Research Award

The Luminescence Dating Research Laboratory (LDRL) at the Univ. of
Illinois at Chicago is pleased to announce a yearly competition for
graduate students, awarding five optical age determinations (valued at
$5000) and travel support (up to $700) to collaborate with the LDRL.
This award is to enrich and propel graduate student research in the
geosciences and to broaden the utility and judicious application and
development of optical dating. This competition is open to all graduate
students in good standing in North American, South American, European,
African, Australian and Asian universities. There will be up to two
awards/year. The deadline for applications is December 1, 2007.

Interested graduate students should submit no more than a two page
(single spaced) written proposal with appropriate references and figures
that address: 1) The significance, motivation, and merit of the proposed
research. 2) How optical ages will significantly enrich the research. 3)
How the proposed research will significantly extend the development and
application of optical dating. Proposal should have a title and contact
information for the applicant. Also, each applicant should secure a
letter of reference from their thesis/dissertation advisor and send with
the application.

Application should be submitted electronically as an email attachment to
