Dear Colleagues,

This is an invitation to attend The Martin Glaessner Symposium: The Ediacaran and the Cambrian Explosion, which is part of Theme 23, 'Evolution of the Biosphere' of the International Geological Congress (IGC) The Congress is to be held in Brisbane, Australia, 5-10 August, 2012.

Co-convenors: Glenn Brock, Macquarie University; Guy Narbonne, Queens University

Name: Martin Fritz Glaessner (1906-1989) was professor of palaeontology and geology at the University of Adelaide and did much early work on the Ediacara biota. Indeed, it was he who proposed that this biota was not Cambrian in age, but 'Precambrian'.

Content:  This symposium aims to cover the differences and similarities between the Ediacara biota and that characterised by the explosive diversification during the Cambrian.
