The Department of Geological Sciences at Michigan State University (MSU),
East Lansing, Michigan, USA, seeks candidates for an *open
rank*tenure-track faculty position in
*Geomicrobiology*. We are a rapidly growing department with over $12
Million in committed endowment funds. This position is linked to the new
Global Water Initiative at MSU in which 16 faculty are being hired. We
expect this position to be filled in Fall 2013. MSU has an excellent
culture of research collaboration across a range of departments and
programs. We are seeking candidates who will develop a vigorous,
externally-funded research program, teach and advise undergraduate and
graduate students, contribute to a collegial and cohesive departmental
environment, and seek collaborative linkages with different units across

The primary appointment for this position is in the Department of
Geological Sciences with a partial appointment in the Department of
Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. Applications are encouraged across a
broad research context that includes the interface of Earth, environmental,
and microbiological processes. Specific research expertise could include:
quantifying the spatial and temporal interplay between bio/geo/chemical and
hydrologic processes; advancing understanding in microbial evolution;
assessing the role of microbes in aquatic and terrestrial environments; and
understanding microbes in extreme environments.

A Ph.D. in Geological Sciences, Earth Science, Microbiology, or related
field is required. Applicants are expected to be leaders in their fields
and must have potential to develop a well-funded research programs and an
exemplary record of scholarship.
