To all Mollusca listers:

The Malacology Section of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is pleased to announce that Dr. Jann Vendetti has joined the staff effective Monday, August 4th, 2014. Jann's title will be "Twila Bratcher chair in Malacological Research." This position is funded for two years and will hopefully become permanent after that period. Twila Bratcher was a research associate of Malacology in the 1960's through the early 1990's and was a specialist in terebrid gastropods. Her generosity and dedication to Malacology has made this position possible. Jann has a B.A. in Geology and Biology from Colgate University and a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley under the direction of Carole Hickman. Her Ph.D. dissertation title was Phylogenetics, development, and Cenozoic Paleontology of Buccinidae (Mollusca: Gastropoda) so she has a strong background in recent and fossil mollusks which will strengthen her role as a Malacology curator. She also studied the phylogenetics and development of sacoglossan seaslugs while on a postdoctoral position at California State University, Los Angeles with Dr. Patrick Krug. For good measure Jann will also be supervising the huge Invertebrate Paleontology collection as well. Jan can be contacted at jvendett at<mailto:jvendett at> or 213-763-3380.
