Academic-year stipend support and tuition remission are available through
the SDSM&T Department of Geology and Geological Engineering for a graduate
student to participate in a paleoceanographic and paleoecologic project
focusing on low-oxygen events in the North Pacific over the last 60,000
years. Opportunities to extend funding beyond the first academic year for
up to an additional 2 years, including summer semesters, may be provided
based on student performance. At SDSM&T, the graduate research assistant
will investigate benthic foraminiferal faunal change alongside geochemical
proxies for environmental change to test for the paleoceanographic drivers
of changes in benthic communities and of observed low-oxygen events. The
Department of Geology and Geological Engineering at SDSM&T offers MS degree
programs in Geology and Geological Engineering and in Paleontology, and a
PhD in Geology and Geological Engineering. Interested candidates may
contact Dr. Christina Belanger (Christina.Belanger at for
additional information. Information on the application process is available
