Art was certainly a giant in the field, a remarkable brachiopod paleontologist, and an extraordinary person. His outstanding generosity to the Paleontological Society established an award program bearing his name, that has assisted, and will continue to assist, early career scientists each year to conduct paleontological research all over the world. He will be missed enormously.

He was 93 and hopeful the new technique the doctors were using to repair his heart would give him another five to six years so he could finish his next book with his wonderful companion (wife in love), Kathy Nichols, a noted Triassic paleontologist. Peter Boucot, his son, was also with him.
