Description
ConocoPhillips is currently accepting online resumes for a
Biostratigrapher Specialist. The successful candidate will part of the
Upstream Subsurface Technology/Sedimentary Systems team and will be
responsible for driving application of bio- and chronostratigraphic
interpretation techniques within the framework of sequence stratigraphy
and sedimentary systems. The incumbent will also serve as a resource
to ConocoPhillips geoscientists, seek relevant new concepts and
techniques, and apply best practices to technical service projects.
Guide industrial and academic research projects through active
involvement, translate results into a format that is usable by
ConocoPhillips' GGRE community, and disseminate knowledge throughout
ConocoPhillips.
Responsibilities
The Biostratigrapher position may be responsible for the following:
* Provide integrated regional to reservoir scale stratigraphic
interpretation and analysis expertise on multi-discipline teams in
variable global settings. Projects involve international and domestic
exploration through production stage analysis, and vary in duration from
2 weeks to 18 months.
* Quality control and maintain consistency in the collection and
use of biostratigraphic data, and participate in the maintenance of
biostratigraphic databases.
* Test, determine the value of, and promote the usage of
appropriate emerging interpretation tools and techniques to improve bio-
and chronostratigraphic and paleoenvironmental interpretation.
* Disseminate knowledge gained through multiple technology
transfer mechanisms: teaching training courses, networks, web based
knowledge transfer and others.
Qualifications:
Basic/Required Qualifications
* Master's Degree in Geology, with specialization in
micropaleontology/biostratigraphy.
* Legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time
basis.
* Five years related experience.
*
Specialization in marine microfossils, specifically benthonic
and planktonic foraminifers and/or calcareous nannofossils, with a basic
knowledge of other microfossil groups.
*
Strong computing skills and knowledge of statistical software,
willingness to learn and apply leading edge software including
Workstation and other stratigraphic exploration/exploitation
applications.
*
Knowledge of exploration geologic concepts and exploration
processes
*
Understanding of the integration of biostratigraphic data with
geological and geophysical data.
*
Ability to develop multiple interpretations that honor existing
data, when appropriate, and to explain the strengths and weaknesses of
each interpretation.
*
Estimated travel time 25%.
Preferred Qualifications
*
PhD in Geology.
*
Strong knowledge of bio- and chronostratigraphic concepts;
experience in clastic and carbonate sedimentary systems.
*
Strong knowledge of paleoenvironmental and paleogeographic
reconstructions using microfossil assemblages.
*
Knowledge of other stratigraphic techniques including
calibration of time-scales and non-biostratigraphic methods of
age-dating and correlation.
*
Ability to fit into multiple diverse teams very quickly; to
review projects and provide constructive feedback, and to influence key
business decisions as a team player and collaborator.
*
Ability to plan and manage multiple projects in parallel.
*
Ability to synthesize and communicate concepts through strong
written and oral communication skills.
*
Ability to network well inside and outside the company at all
levels. Well-developed interpersonal skills with a flexible, diplomatic
and open-minded approach. Willingness to learn from others.
*
Ability to mentor, to provide one-on-one teaching and to
instruct courses.
*
Commitment to achieving geological excellence and promoting
functional professionalism.
*
Special skills, training, or certification in Micropaleontology,
Biostratigraphy, Chronostratigraphy, Sequence Stratigraphy,
Sedimentology.
