Both Globoturborotalita (type species: Globigerina rubescens) and
Zeaglobigerina (type species: Globigerina woodi) are names that have
been applied to species in a distinct lineage of primarily Neogene
globigerinids, morphologically characterized by compact tests, a
distinct apertural lip or rim, and in particular, a cancellate wall
texture. Globigerina nepenthes is also a member of this lineage, which
has been phylogenetically distinct from Globigerina s.s. (which
possesses a spinose non-cancellate wall) since at least the Oligocene
and probably earlier. Globoturborotalia is the senior synonym.
