Postdoctoral Researcher, The Paleontological Institute, University of

A post is available immediately for a postdoctoral researcher in the field
of Arthropod Paleobiology at The Paleontological Institute, University of
Kansas. The position would ideally suit a person with interests in fossil
chelicerates, or terrestrial arthropods such as arachnids, insects or
myriapods. Consideration will be given to applicants studying any aspect of
arthropod paleobiology, e.g. systematics, phylogenetics, paleobiogeography,
paleoecology, and it would be advantageous to work with modern as well as
fossil organisms. The Paleontological Institute is housed in the Department
of Geology, where modern, well-equipped laboratory facilities are available
for paleontological research. The Paleontological Institute is part of the
Biodiversity Institute, along with the Museum of Natural History, which has
excellent curatorial and bioinformatics facilities for invertebrate
Requirements: Ph.D. in Geology, Biology or related discipline; experience
with research involving describing fossil material; experience with
phylogenetic techniques; experience working with modern organisms;
experience working in a museum-type setting. Requirements should be
demonstrable by application materials, work history, and coursework.
Preferred qualifications: the ability to apply phylogenetic studies to
modern and fossil organisms; familiarity with several fossil and extant
arthropod groups; experience writing and submitting paleontological papers
including descriptive and phylogenetic work.
Remuneration: this is a fixed-term appointment for 3 years (with the
possibility of extension subject to funding). A salary of $32,000 per annum
plus benefits is offered, with opportunities for additional work (subject to
the applicants skills, relevance to the position, and availability).
