Many thanks Dieter..I have already been pointed towards this website by another paleonetter. This resolves the apparently contradictory references, but it's still a mystery as to why publication of part of Vol. 30 was apparently delayed by >25 years. Presumably this is explained somewhere in Palaeontographica. A copy is apparently available on Google Books, but blocked to European users due to restrictive copyright laws.
Best wishes
Chris

Dear Chris,
go to the home page of Palaeontographica at Schweizerbart (http://www.schweizerbart.de/papers/palae/volumes) and you see that this journal seems to have a surprisingly complicated publication history!
Best wishes

Dear Roger
Thanks for this..however due to European copyright restrictions I'm unable to download the Google Books version of this publication. Nevertheless I can read it online via Internet Archive. This is a useful reference, but unfortunately it still does not explain the 'out of order' volume number (as far as my very limited German can tell).. and why it is misssing from otherwise complete online set !
Many thanks
Chris

Dear Chris:
Google "Oppenheim Zur Kenntnis alttertiär" and you get this url with the correct 1903 citation, at the head of a review published in Geologisches Zentralblatt: Anzeiger für Geologie, Petrographie ..., Volume 5
http://books.google.com/books?id=kIQQAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA286&lpg=PA286&dq=Oppenheim+Zur+Kenntnis+alttertiar&source=bl&ots=_Xg0ZMLUVL&sig=-rowHj4Qb4meNxX_taCMDYxb-fM&hl=en&ei=MfCyTciQG46itgeH6snpDg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CBgQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q&f=false
Kind regards, Roger

I ve tried to locate this online. Internet Archive has a run of Palaeontographica from Vol 1 up thru Vol 35 and later, but Vol. 30 is the only one not included !
Also, this is dated 1903-1906, but Vol 30 should be 1884 ! ..Another Egypt-related paper (Mayer-Eymar, Die Versteinerungen..) is listed as in Vol. 30, but dated 1883, and with pagination overlapping with the Oppenheim monograph..
Help !
