Role description:
The Palaeontology Department of The Natural History Museum, London, is
interested in filling a Museum Scientist post (a Level 3 appointment) on a
fixed-term contract. The purpose of this post is develop and deliver a
programme of engagement with the micropalaeontological community especially
with regard to new initiatives in the areas of collections development,
education & training, commercial consultancy, and research. This post will
be responsible for leading the development and implementation of this
stakeholder engagement programme, working with department curators to
develop the NHM collections, setting up and (where applicable) delivering
courses on aspects of micropalaeontology to academic and commercial sectors,
organizing and (where applicable) undertaking commercial consultancy, and
delivering a programme of personal scientific research. Prior experience in
all these activity areas is a requirement, as is a PhD or equivalent
experience in a micropalaeontology-related discipline
Salary: £38,812 per annum plus benefits
Contract: 36 month fixed-term appointment

Knowledge, skills and experience:
PhD with specialist experience in micropalaeontology
Taxonomy and systematics of a microfossil group
Use and development of micropalaeontological collections
Biostratigraphy, chronostratigraphy and stratigraphic analysis
Digital photomicrography/digital scanning
Database use and design
Education and training including course design, teaching and
presentation
Experience of working in or with the commercial sector
Micropalaeontological research
Public outreach
Stakeholder engagement
Development and delivery of programmes of work and projects
Leadership skills
Well organised with effective time management skills and an ability to
undertake multiple tasks through to completion, working to tight
deadlines
Strong attention to detail, with a proven ability to undertake
methodical tasks to a high level of accuracy
Flexible with a proven ability to work well within a team structure.
Demonstrable experience of using initiative and prioritising workload
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
A high degree of personal creativity
Ability to communicate scientific information to a wide audience
