Subject: Paleonet: Job: UCMP Museum Scientist - Invertebrate Collections
Job Open: Museum Scientist - UCMP Invertebrate Collections
The University of California Museum of Paleontology has been awarded a two-year grant from the NSF (CSBR: Natural History Collections) to complete the rehabilitation of the orphaned Menlo Park USGS fossil invertebrate collection that is now housed in UCMP's off-site collections facility. We are seeking a Museum Scientist to serve as the project coordinator for this grant. The successful candidate, under direction of the Assistant Director for Collections and Research and the UCMP collections staff, will re-organize and re-house the collection into new trays and museum cabinets, conserve and complete data entry for the fossils, and organize the diverse contextual records, e.g., maps, field notes, photographs, and correspondence that accompany the specimens. The Museum Scientist will also digitally image and document the specimens and labels. The grant provides support for graduate and undergraduate students to assist in the work, which the Museum Scientist will train and lead.
Please contact Dr Mark Goodwin (mark at berkeley.edu<mailto:mark at berkeley.edu>) for further information.
