The Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History is proud to announce its latest scientific publication, Bivalve Seashells of Tropical West America. Nine years in the making, the monograph documents and describes all Recent bivalve mollusks from Baja California, Mexico to northern Peru, from the intertidal zone to depths of more than 4,500 meters.
The two-volume 1258 page book includes over 6,000 full color photographs of 890 species, along with a description of its shell, habitat, ecology, and fossil occurrences when available. It includes over 5,000 complete bibliographic references on the Bivalvia. There are 16 new species described, along with three new genera. This effort was led by Dr. Eugene V. Coan and Paul Valentich-Scott of the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.
The publication is available directly from the Santa Barbara Museum. Further information and a sample chapter are available at: http://sbnature.org/crc/742.html
