Session description:
Late Mesozoic - Early Cenozoic was characterized by global climatic changes with the OAEs, Paleogene hyperthermals, PETM, Late Oligocene Warming Event (LOWE) and the Oi-glaciation events. Obtaining high resolution records and explaining the causes and mechanisms of this variability remain a challenge. Current hypotheses suggest that ocean circulation, global heat transport, continental temperatures, latitudinal temperature gradients, eustatic sea levels changes and astronomical forcing played an important role. We welcome studies that combine micropaleontology, biostratigraphy, geochemistry, isotopes, sedimentology, and chronostratigraphy, to address the climatic variability of this interesting period.
