Geobiology faculty search at Stanford University

As part of an initiative in Geobiology, the School of Earth Sciences at Stanford University seeks to make one or more tenure-line faculty appointments of open rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) in this area. We invite applications from persons with demonstrated research records addressing fundamental questions at the intersection of the biological and geological sciences who are also committed to quality undergraduate and graduate teaching. The objective of the Geobiology initiative is to advance fundamental understanding of the co-evolution of Earth and life, with particular focus on addressing the challenges that arise from the enormous range of temporal and spatial scales involved. Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, the study of the coupled histories of Earth and life using data from paleontology, geochemistry, and sedimentary geology; the evolution of biogeochemical cycling; the role of life in shaping the geochemistry of the Earth’s crust over modern to geological time scales; geochemical controls on biotic activity, diversity, and evolution; biogenic mineral formation/dissolution; and life in extreme environments. Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vita, a statement outlining research and teaching interests that would materially contribute to related programs in the School of Earth Sciences, three representative papers published within the last 5 years and the names and email addresses of three referees. Review of applications will commence August 1, 2013. The position will remain open until filled. Stanford University has a strong institutional commitment to the principle of diversity. In that spirit, we particularly encourage applications from women, members of ethnic minorities, and individuals with disabilities. For more information about the School of Earth Sciences, see the school's web page at http://pangea.stanford.edu/. PLEASE NOTE: all application material must be submitted in PDF format.
