Call for Proposals ( http://www.geosociety.org/Sections/ne/2014mtg/ )
49th Annual Meeting
Northeastern Section, Geological Society of America
23–25 March 2014
Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square and
Lancaster County Convention Center
Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA
The technical program committee invites the submission of proposals for symposia or theme sessions, field trips and workshops for the 2014 meeting of the Northeastern Section of GSA in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In keeping with the meeting theme – At the Junction of the Northern and Southern Appalachians – we are particularly interested in ideas that highlight the geologic record of the Appalachians and more broadly, eastern North America, from the Proterozoic to the advent of human influence. We are eager to receive proposals in all geologic disciplines. Proposal submissions are due by 8 May 2013.
Lancaster is a vibrant, small city with historically significant architecture, urban parks, boutiques, galleries, restaurants and coffee shops lining its streets. It is easily accessible by road, by train, and from Harrisburg airport. Our venue is the splendid new Marriott at Penn Square and Lancaster County Convention Center, centrally located in the heart of historic downtown Lancaster, and just steps away from oldest operating farmer’s market in the country. For years, Lancaster has been a crossroads for the exchange of ideas. It is an ideal gathering place for participants in the 2014 NE-GSA meeting to present, discuss and learn about the latest developments in our varied disciplines.
Lancaster is situated in the geologically complex Piedmont of Pennsylvania, in near proximity to the classic Valley and Ridge Province of the Appalachians. Close to the Susquehanna River, by which it was historically accessible from Chesapeake Bay, Lancaster has in recent years become an important focus of study of the effects of climate change and human influence on its verdant and productive landscape.
Proposals should include:
1. Title of session
2. Principal Organizer (Name, affiliation, email)
3. Co-organizers (Names, affiliations, emails)
4. A short description of the session, field trip or workshop
5. A listing of potential session speakers (if available)
