Paleonet: 11th Int. Symp. of the IFAA

Dear Paleonetters,

The 11th International Symposium on Fossil Algae (International Fossil
Algae Association) will be held on September 14-19, 2015 in Okinawa-jima,
Ryukyu Islands (Ryukyus), Japan.
A field excursion is to be conducted before the symposium (September 14 and
15, 2015) to observe modern coral reefs and Eocene and Pleistocene
carbonates on Ishigaki-jima, South Ryukyus. The next two days will be spent
for the symposium. A special session will be organized to discuss
"Morphology vs. molecular evidence in determining algal taxonomy and
phylogeny (tentative title)".
On September 18, we will visit Shuri Castle (Shurijo) (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shuri_Castle) and then go to Kin or Nakagusuku
Bay to observe modern Bay meadows. One-day field excursion will be held on
September 19 at Akiyoshi-dai, Yamaguchi Prefecture, where
Carboniferous-Permian limestones are extensively exposed.
