University of Arizona: Lecturer in Paleobiology/Geobiology



The Department of Geosciences at the University of Arizona invites applications for a non-tenure-track, full-time lecturer position in paleobiology/geobiology.  The initial contract is for one year, with possibility of extension. Candidates must have excellent teaching skills, and be committed to practicing and promoting excellence in teaching.  The successful candidate will teach large-enrollment general education (non-major) courses on topics such as dinosaurs, life on earth, and the history of life and its relationship to the Earth system.  Depending on qualifications and interests, the successful candidate may also be called upon to teach courses for undergraduate majors.  We seek an excellent teacher who promotes diversity in education, and has experience with a variety of collaborative, teaching, and curricular approaches. We anticipate hiring at the non-tenure-track lecturer level for the academic year beginning fall 2016.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  *   Lecturers typically teach two courses (or two sections of the same course) per semester.  Teaching assignments are made by Department Head.
  *   The appointee will be required to teach at least one large-enrollment lecture course per year in the general area of paleobiology/geobiology.
  *   The appointee could be required to teach paleontology for geoscience majors, and to coordinate laboratory/workshop offerings for that course.
  *   The appointee must be able to teach classes of various sizes, including large lectures with hundreds of students.
  *   Other teaching opportunities may arise.

Minimum Qualifications:  PhD degree in applicable field; Teaching experience in

            earth science or related field; Effective communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:  Experience with large-enrollment general education

courses in the earth sciences.
