Paleonet: New Epoch name convention?

No, I've never heard of this. Sounds like lazy editors to me. I was taught
in stratigraphy class way back last century that  Early, Middle, Late refer
to time and chronostratigraphy. Lower, Middle, Upper refer to position of a
formation or group in a series, i.e. rock units. I was also taught that it
was improper usage to mix the two, for example, to refer to time as "upper"
or rocks as "late". It promotes sloppy analysis and poor communication if
the conventions have changed.
