Job Title: MAT Senior Scientist, Paleontology, American Museum of Natural History

The MAT Senior Scientist, Paleontology will fill a three-year term position at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, devoting 50% effort to science research and 50% to science education.  Desired start date is June 1, 2016. Applicants must have their PhD in the paleontological sciences with a strong background in geoscience as well as a strong publication record and a proven track record for garnering competitive funding for their research.  Preference will be given to applicants with 3 - 5 years of post-doctoral experience as well as prior teaching experience for undergraduates and/or graduates in paleontological and/or Earth science.

The successful applicant will be appointed to the Science Faculty in the AMNH Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Earth Science program with responsibility for co-teaching a 36 contact hour course Earth Evolution and the Earth System, and co-teaching a six-week summer Science Practicum to pre-service Earth science teachers. They will be housed in, and an intellectual contributor to, the AMNH Division of Paleontology. They will have access to extensive scientific resources available at AMNH including outstanding scientists, world-class collections, a wide range of analytical and genomics tools, and a program supporting scientific expeditions. The successful applicant is expected to independently maintain a vigorous research program, to publish in peer-reviewed journals, and to travel to meetings and conferences to present research results. They will be able to apply for external funding for research. The AMNH embraces collaboration with colleagues within AMNH and the regional academic community, including Columbia University and the Graduate School of CUNY.
