SCUMMERS, SCUM ONE, SCUM ALL!
Announcing SCUM XXI, the 21st Annual Gathering of the
Southern California Unified Malacologists
Santa Barbara, California
Saturday, January 28th 2017
8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History
2559 Puesta del Sol
Santa Barbara, CA 93105
The 21st annual meeting of the Southern California Unified Malacologists (SCUM) will convene at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. SCUM is an informal association of professional, student, and amateur malacologists and molluscan paleontologists who are active or interested in molluscan research. The purpose of the annual gatherings is to foster communication and keep one another informed of research activities and opportunities. There are no dues, no officers, and no publications.
Program: The original purpose of the first SCUM meeting was to provide an opportunity for molluscan workers in the southern California area to get together in an informal setting and talk about what projects we had been working on in the previous year. Thus the meeting will begin at 9:00 AM with a round of introductions and short statements of who we are or what sorts of projects that we may be working on, or are interested in, concerning living and fossil mollusks. Those of you who may wish to make longer presentations of your research, thesis work, or ongoing investigations and/or interests should contact Paul Valentich-Scott (pvscott at sbnature2.org<mailto:pvscott at sbnature2.org>) so that we can compose some sort of informal program for the session. Presentation should be limited to no more than 10 minutes including questions. There will be a mid-morning break, as well as a lunch break. Any other proposals are invited.
Refreshments: Morning coffee and various refreshments to munch on will be available from 8:30 AM onward and into a morning break.
Lunch will be no-host and catered. It will include salads, sandwiches, cookies, and a beverage. The cost will be $15 inclusive. You MUST order lunch in advance, with an email to vdelnavaz at sbnature2.org<mailto:vdelnavaz at sbnature2.org>, no later than 20 January 2017.
You can also bring your own brown bag lunch. Note that there are no food sources within walking distance of the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.
We look forward to a fun and lively meeting!
See you there!
