Dear Roy,
I don't know if it can help you. I have described with colleagues a "faunal
event" during the latest Oligocene in Europe that concludes to a faunal
turn over in large mammals (I have also found similarities with plants
evolution). This is something quite new and colleagues have done similar
observation in Mongolia thus this faunal remodeling seems to be at the
Eurasian scale (such as the Grande-Coupure). This extinction of all the
ruminants (for example) is correlated with environmental changes (from
temperate forest without season to savannah with strong seasonnality)
probably due to orogene and huge immigrations waves. However, I have been
working a bite on Northern America, and it seems to be a different story
there.
All the best
Bastien
