Dear Colleagues,

If you are going to attend the *Geological Society of America annual
meeting* this year in Phoenix, Arizona, on September 22-25, 2019, please
consider submitting your abstract to the topical session “*T108.
Understanding the Neoproterozoic Earth-life System*”.

This session will highlight recent advances in our knowledge of the
Neoproterozoic Earth-life system as well as cross-discipline methods that
foster new insight into the fossil and rock records in the Neoproterozoic.

 *Rationale*:

Dramatic climatic and environmental changes and important evolutionary
innovations occurred during the Neoproterozoic Era. A better understanding
of those geological and biological events and their causal relationship is
central to understanding the evolution of the Earth as a planet capable of
hosting complex life and to searching for habitable environments and life
on other worlds. This session aims to boost discussion and
interdisciplinary collaboration by bringing together a trans-disciplinary
group of innovative thinkers to present advances on biological,
geochemical, sedimentologic, and climatic evolution in the Neoproterozoic
in order to better understand the Neoproterozoic Earth-life system.

In addition to the topical session, we are pleased to announce that there
will be a *Pardee Keynote Symposium* of the same subject happening on
September 25, 2019 from 8 am to 12 pm. There are 12 extremely interesting
talks prepared in the symposium. *Invited speakers for the Pardee Keynote
Symposium include: *

· *Alan Jay Kaufman (University of Maryland)*

· *Alan Rooney (Yale University)*

· *Carol Dehler (Utah State University)*

· *Douglas Erwin (Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History)*

· *Francis Macdonald (University of California, Santa Barbara)*

· *Gangqing Jiang (University of Nevada, Las Vegas)*

· *Graham Shields (University College London)*

· *Roger Summons (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)*

· *Susanna Porter (University of California, Santa Barbara)*

· *Shuhai Xiao (Virginia Tech)*

· *Timothy Lyons (University of California, Riverside)*

· *Zheng-Xiang Li (Curtin University)*

You are more than welcome to attend this special event and communicate with
our speakers.
