Dear Paleoneters,
we very often read authors' names with their nobiliary particles
attached in taxon names. In addition the same authors a(re commonly
listed according to the first initial of their nobiliary particle in
the bibliographic references.
A good example comes with Alcide Charles Victor Marie Dessalines
d'Orbigny, whose family name was Dessalines d'Orbigny or Orbigny, but
who is commonly quoted as "d'Orbigny" and listed under D ... whereas
it should be quoted as Orbigny and listed under O as "Orbigny, A. d'".
Another example could be Carl Linnæus, later known as Carl von Linné .... who is always correctly coined under L. (not under V)
Giraffa camelopardalis Linnaeus, 1758 ... you will never read Giraffa
camelopardalis von Linnaeus, 1758
I could not find a dedicated rule or an article either in the ICZN or
in the ICBN but it look that it is the common use:
"Coccus sativus Lancry, 1791, Coccus mexicanus Lamarck, 1891" <<< this
is an excerpt from the ICZN (https://www.iczn.org/cases/all-cases/ )
with Louis-Maximilien de Lancry de Pronleroy and Jean-Baptiste Pierre
Antoine de Monet, chevalier de La Marck, dit Jean-Baptiste de Lamarck.
I believe it is a "common mistake" and if one is given the opportunity
as an author, a reviewer or an editor to correct it that should be done.
Here is an summary paper on nobiliary particles:

if you do not have access you can still request it from the author under
