The Division of Paleontology at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) seeks a Full Curator and Professor in dinosaur paleobiology, to start on or after July 1, 2022. Applications from those currently at senior Associate levels will also be considered.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated scientific creativity and the ability to sustain an innovative research program in dinosaur paleobiology and a track record of effective interdisciplinary and inter-institutional collaborations and partnerships. Applications should demonstrate expertise in areas that enhance research in dinosaur paleontology, for example, systematic theory and methodology, computational analysis (modeling, analytical, imaging/visualization, AI/ML, etc), and/or biogeochemical or isotopic studies. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated history of extramural funding with high potential for continued support. The successful candidate will also be expected to advance the Museum's mission through a robust field expeditionary program.
The responsibilities of the position are to perform original scientific research on dinosaurs and supervise associated staff activities, to oversee curation and management of the Fossil Amphibian, Reptiles, and Birds (FARB) Collection in the Department of Vertebrate Paleontology, and to provide museum service, for example: exhibition development; participation in Richard Gilder Graduate School teaching, mentoring, and related activities; and collaboration with the Museum’s education department, public programs, government relations, and institutional advancement.
The AMNH is a recognized leader in scientific research and academic and public education about dinosaurs. Resources available at AMNH include world-class paleontological and zoological collections; a wide range of optical, electron beam, and x-ray analytical tools including CT; experimental and fossil preparation laboratories; an ancient DNA and proteomics lab; computational systems; and LA-ICPMS facilities shared with Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University. The AMNH maintains active internal grant programs to support field research across many disciplines. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to build on existing relationships with nearby collaborating institutions including Columbia University, City University of New York, and others.
Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in geosciences, biology, or a related field.
