External Email - Exercise Caution

Abby Telfer and I would like to let you know that the Department of Paleobiology at the National Museum of Natural History in Washington DC will soon offer a contract for work in FossiLab, our new, state-of-the-art, fossil preparation/exhibit lab in the Deep Time Hall of Fossils. The contractor will divide their time between three responsibilities: 1) preparing, conserving and housing fossils in front of museum visitors, 2) assisting two FossiLab staff in managing, training and supervising up to 50 volunteers who work weekly on preparation and collections support projects, 3) assisting Museum educators in online and in-person educational programing about fossils and fossil preparation. Prior experience in volunteer training and management, fossil preparation and public outreach is essential.

The one-year contract will require 40 hours of work per week including 8 hours per day on Saturdays and Sundays. The contract may be offered for renewal for up to a total of four years. The target start date is early summer, 2021, but this has not been fixed due to COVID-19 uncertainty. Although the lab is currently closed, virtual work on educational programing may begin before we reopen.
