Paleonet: Part Time MS position KPg mass extinction

Carlie Pietsch, Assistant Professor of Geology is recruiting Fall 2022
applicants for the Masters in Geology at San Jose State University who will
work with field collected fossil specimens to identify, analyze, and
interpret the fossil record of the marine invertebrate extinction and
recovery from the end-Cretaceous mass extinction.

The aim of this project is to study previously unexamined sections spanning
the Cretaceous-Paleogene mass extinction in order to apply new quantitative
techniques to investigate the impact of the K/Pg extinction on functional
ecology of survivors and the body size and energetics of recovery
assemblages.

The Masters Graduate Assistant will assist a larger project team of
paleontologists, sedimentologists, geochemists, and science education
specialists by conducting research, contributing to virtual field
experiences, and communicating research outcomes through publications and
presentations.

Partial funding is available:

   -

   $20/hour for up to 20 hours/week during academic semester, up to 40
   hours/week during the intersession.
   -

   Tuition waiver for two years of in-state tuition contingent on academic
   standing and maintaining position as a graduate student teaching assistant
   (up to 10 hrs/week)
