Hello paleo-net community,

2022 will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Earth Science Women’s
Network (ESWN).
ESWN is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to increasing
diversity across the geosciences with an emphasis on creating and
supporting a nurturing community, working for cultural change to eliminate
barriers to a diverse scientific workforce, and empowering scientists
through professional development. It is led by a volunteer Board of
Directors and Associate Board of Directors, which support a range of
activities aimed at professional growth and creating a just, equitable and
inclusive geoscience community.

To celebrate this milestone, we are hosting an event in collaboration
with AdvanceGEO
<https://serc.carleton.edu/advancegeo/index.html>on *March 28th from 8pm -
9pm UTC. *To find out the start time in your timezone use this link (this

The event will feature a talk by former ESWN board member Erika
Marín-Spiotta from ADVANCEGeo.

Erika's talk details are below.

*Title*: Building partnerships to catalyze cultural change in the
geosciences

*Abstract*: The ADVANCEGeo Partnership, funded by a US National Science
Foundation ADVANCE award, builds successful collaborations among the Earth
Science Women’s Network, Association for Women Geoscientists, and the
American Geophysical Union to catalyze policy and cultural change in the
geosciences. The program’s main interventions are a community-based model
for bystander intervention education, informed by a feminist ethics of
care, to tackle systemic exclusionary behaviors and the promotion of
ethical codes that identify harassment, bullying and discrimination as
scientific misconduct. The program’s intersectional framework addresses
persistent trends in the earth and environmental sciences and responds to
unique challenges of disciplines with field training components. Here I
will describe some of the work of ADVANCEGeo, including findings from a
workplace climate survey of the geosciences, and describe opportunities for
transforming cultural change through partnerships.
