Hello Everyone,

I'd like to invite anyone who is interested to submit abstracts for the
Geological Society of America (GSA) Annual Meeting session, *Evolution of
the Western Interior Basin: New Advances and Fresh Perspectives.* This
session will be held in October at the GSA Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania. This session will explore major advancements in our
understanding of the Cretaceous Western Interior Basin of North America. We
are looking for presentations on Cretaceous Western Interior Basin
tectonics, stratigraphy, biostratigraphy, chronostratigraphy, geochemistry,
paleogeography, paleontology, paleoceanography, and paleoclimatology.
Abstracts are due July 25, 2023.

Please see the description below and in the attached flyer (in jpg format).

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!

Cheers,

Joshua Slattery, PhD

Session Overview:

The Cretaceous Western Interior Basin is among the best-studied sedimentary
basins in the world. Numerous studies have been published on this basin’s
paleontology, geology, and geochemistry. However, the most comprehensive
review to date has been Caldwell and Kauffman’s Evolution of the Western
Interior Basin (Canadian Geological Association Special Paper 39). Despite
remaining the most exhaustive review on the subject, new research utilizing
modern technologies and analytical tools have substantially altered our
perspective on this basin’s evolution. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of
this volume’s publication, the aim of this session is to have a broad
spectrum of contributions from various geological and paleontological
disciplines that will review major advancements on the evolution of the
Western Interior Basin.
