The latter two are no plants, the first, however, with this carbonificated preservation, sort of remembers me of some fruits, but what is the age of it?
By the modern type of structure, if it is a seed, I would expect it to be Cenozoic. Perhaps contact come seed specialists like Steven R Manchester steven at flmnh.ufl.edu<mailto:steven at flmnh.ufl.edu> or Edoardo Martinetto <edoardo.martinetto at unito.it>

Hi Russell,

The third is an obliquely preserved graptolite. The dimensions (Dorso-Ventral Width = 3mm) look about right, but the thecae are at an angle and difficult to visualise. They appear to be small lobes.
The second looks like a member of the echinoderms.
The first is really odd…….

Regards,

Mike

Subject: Paleonet: Unknown fossils and some help?

Hi PaleoNet People!

So I have been having a look through the AMNH collection and came across three fossils that have very limited metadata but look really interesting. I was hoping someone out there might be able to help!

The first is from Costa Rica, age known
The second is from the Hamilton Group, ??Devonian
The third is from the Clinton Shale, Silurian.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and may lead to some interesting collaborations!

Cheers!

Russell Bicknell.
