Paleonet: Simon R. A. Kelly

Dear Paleonet community,

It is with great sadness that I have to announce the passing of Simon 
Richard Appleton Kelly (1950–2023), emeritus curator at CASP and eminent 
Arctic–Antarctic Mesozoic invertebrate palaeontologist. Those who have 
met Simon over the years will remember him fondly as a kind and cheerful 
colleague, passionate field geologist, and a meticulous, sharp-minded 
scientist. Simon passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on the 
19th of May, after a year and a half of illness, which he fought bravely 
without complaint. His company and wonderful humour will be sorely 
missed, at CASP and beyond.
