Hi everyone,

We (Adiel Klompmaker, Christy Visaggi, Greg Dietl, and René Shroat-Lewis)
are organizing a topical session at the Geological Society of America
annual meeting this year to be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on the
15-18 October.

The session (T75) is entitled: “*Honoring the Legacy of Teaching,
Mentoring, and Research by Patricia Kelley: Predation, Conservation,
Evolution, Education, and Diversity in the Geosciences*”.

This session invites presentations inspired by contributions made by
Patricia Kelley. Research on predation and conservation paleobiology,
efforts to enhance the understanding of evolution, engaging classroom
approaches, and strategies to support DEI are very welcome.

The *abstract deadline* is 11:59 p.m., Pacific Time, *25 July* *2023*. Abstract
can be submitted here: https://community.geosociety.org/gsa2023/
<https://community.geosociety.org/gsa2023/home>

*More information on this session:*

Dr. Patricia Kelley has served as a leader in paleontology and the
geosciences more broadly in numerous ways for over 40 years, even after her
retirement. Her efforts in mentoring and research have inspired many
studies on predator-prey interactions in the fossil record and new
directions in conservation paleobiology. She is also widely regarded as an
authority on best practices for speaking about evolution to a variety of
audiences. Her efforts in the classroom and in promoting diversity in the
geosciences have left lasting impacts in broadening participation in the
geosciences and in influencing the pedagogy of educators at all levels.
Through this session, we aim to recognize Dr. Kelley for her achievements
as well as continue to learn from her impressive legacy by hearing from
others who are making their own contributions as inspired by her work.

This session is sponsored by the Paleontological Society, the
Paleontological Research Institute, the National Association of Geoscience
Teachers, and the Association for Women Geoscientists.

Please consider submitting an abstract. We hope to see many of you in
Pittsburgh!

Best wishes,

Adiel Klompmaker (University of Alabama)

Christy Visaggi (Georgia State University)

Greg Dietl (Cornell University/PRI)

René Shroat-Lewis (University of Arkansas at Little Rock)
