Dear All,

The selection for a post-doc position has just opened at the *Dipartimento
di Scienze della Terra, Università degli Studi di Firenze*, to work on *mollusc
palaeoecology in the Mediterranean Sea* on the project “Ecological effects
of species range-expansions driven by climate: insights from the Last
Interglacial (MIS5e, Pleistocene) of the Mediterranean Sea”.

The post-doc will analyse mollusc palaeocommunities in the Mediterranean
area during le Last Interglacial (MIS5e, Middle-Late Pleistocene), a
conservative analogue of future climate change scenarios, to disclose the
ecological role of the “warm guests”, tropical species that entered the
basin form the Atlantic due to the rise of global temperatures and were
later eradicated by the last glacial interval. The overall project, in
collaboration with Dr. Paolo Albano (Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, in
Naples, Italy) aims at predicting the conditions for tropical “warm guests”
to re-enter the Mediterranean Sea via the Strait of Gibraltar under future
climate change scenarios, and the ecological consequences of this invasion.
– *Dr. Paolo Albano will also open a post-doc position to work with him on
the project soon.*

The minimum requirement to apply is to have completed a master’s degree in
Geological Sciences, Natural Sciences or Biology, however (1) experience in
the taxonomic and palaeoecological analysis of marine mollusc communities
of Neogene-Quaternary age; (2) field experience (sampling of
macro-invertebrate fossils and stratigraphic-sedimentological analyses);
(3) scientific publications in national or international journals, are
needed.

The contract is for 18 months, renewable for 6 additional months, and will
start on the 1st of February 2024.
